“It has been a great season with PSG” – Ousmane Dembélé

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has been named the winner of the Ballon d’Or and beats Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal in what has been an incredible season that has ended with a Champions League title.

The 28-year-old French forward had netted 35 goals in 53 games in treble-winning PSG, who became Ligue 1 champions and Coupe de France winners, along with the first-ever champions of the club in the history of the champions league. PSG also made it to the Club World Cup final in the U.S. losing to Chelsea.

Ousmane Dembélé who is still injured and who was absent in PSG because of an injury when the match against Marseille was rearranged on Monday, was given the award at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

France Football presents the Ballon d’Or in recognition of the best player of the season in men. The voting by Journalists all through the world is according to the individual ability, team performance and sportmanship.

Ousmane Dembélé said thank you, all. What exactly has just happened is unbelievable. I’m speechless. It has been a great season with PSG. It is something unique to get this trophy awarded by Ronaldinho.

He also spoke of his gratitude to PSG to sign him in 2023, then he praised the club, the president, the coach Luis Enrique, and his teammates. It is a personal award, yet one that is shared with my team. These trophies we have together won.

Ousmane Dembélé, the successor of Manchester City Rodri, was initially noticed at Rennes and Borussia Dortmund. Other prizes were the Gerd M Muller trophy of the best scorers, where Arsenal Viktor Gyokeres and Barcelona Ewa Pajor were the winners. Best goalkeepers were Gianluigi Donnarumma (Manchester City) and Hannah Hampton (Chelsea). Luis Enrique of PSG and Sarina Wiegman of the England women were the winners of the Johan Cruyff coaching awards.
