The Kansas City Chiefs are back from their bye week with a 5–4 record, and they’re preparing for an important division game against the Denver Broncos. The offense has struggled lately, and the team hopes to get back on track after a 28–21 loss to the Buffalo Bills. One possible boost is the return of rookie left tackle Josh Simmons.

Josh Simmons, a first-round pick, rejoined the team this week after being away for almost a month because of personal family reasons. The details were kept private, but the Chiefs are glad to have him back, especially now that the offensive line is dealing with injuries.

Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor talked about Josh Simmons’ situation on 96.5 The Fan.

“Hopefully whatever he was dealing with is handled now, and he’s in a better place,” Taylor said. “But it’s hard to be in football shape when you haven’t practiced for four weeks.”

The Chiefs are already missing key players. Running back Isiah Pacheco has been ruled out, and right tackle Jawaan Taylor is doubtful because of an ankle injury. That could open a chance for Simmons to get back on the field sooner than expected.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Simmons’ return on Monday. Some fans had already noticed that Simmons reactivated his Instagram, which hinted he was preparing to come back. According to ESPN’s Nate Taylor, the team had planned for him to return during the bye week.

If Jawaan Taylor is unable to play, the Chiefs may move Jaylen Moore to right tackle and put Simmons at left tackle — his natural spot.

“When Jawaan left last game, things got harder for the offense,” Nate Taylor explained. “If something happens again, Simmons is a stronger option to step in.”

Josh Simmons started the first five games of the season and played well for a rookie. His return could help the Chiefs protect Patrick Mahomes better and find more consistency.

This week won’t be easy. Denver leads the AFC West at 8–2 and is one of the best pass-rushing teams in the league. The Broncos have 40 sacks this season and have only allowed nine — the best differential in the NFL.

If Simmons can settle back in quickly, he may be exactly what Kansas City needs to get the offense moving again in Week 11.
