Derrick Henry’s climb up the record books isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The Baltimore Ravens star tied NFL legend Walter Payton for fifth place on the all-time rushing touchdown list on Sunday.
Derrick Henry reached the milestone with a one-yard score in the third quarter of the Ravens’ Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. The touchdown was his 110th, putting him alongside Payton, one of the greatest running backs in league history.
Payton, a Chicago Bears icon, scored all 110 of his touchdowns during his 13-year career before retiring in 1987. He left the game as the NFL’s all-time rushing leader until Emmitt Smith took over the top spot in 2002.
For Derrick Henry, this is just the latest historic moment. Earlier this year, the 31-year-old passed Jim Brown on the career touchdown list and moved ahead of Rams legend Steven Jackson on the rushing yards list. Up next, Henry is closing in on 12,000 career rushing yards. If he gets there, he’ll join an exclusive group — every eligible back with 12,000 yards has earned a place in the Hall of Fame.
Henry already has a résumé worthy of Canton. He’s a two-time rushing champ, a five-time Pro Bowler, and one of only nine players in NFL history to top 2,000 yards in a single season.
The touchdown, however, came in a tough moment for Baltimore. It was the lone highlight of a rough afternoon, with the Ravens trailing 34-10 to the Texans as they slipped toward a 1-4 start to the season.
