In Week 4 action, Cade McNamara won in a battle of the old Iowa quarterbacks as East Tennessee State (2-2, 0-0 Southern) defeated Marco Lainez and Elon (2-2, 0-0 Coastal Athletics) 26-16 on Sunday at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn.
The game was due to start at 4.30 p.m CT, but storms in the region postponed it by two and a half hours. At 7 p.m., when the game finally started, the 8,030 fans who came to watch the game were given a battle to watch.
Lainez was not able to play and Cade McNamara gave a good performance in the case of ETSU. He made 30 of 45 passes, 268 yards and one interception with an addition of seven carries and two yards of rushing and one touchdown.
That rushing mark was something that caught the attention of Iowa fans. Cade McNamara ran 26 times in -76 yards in his two seasons with the Hawkeyes. He was not a running threat even way back at Michigan. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant sight of him punching it into the end zone by ETSU.
McNamara now needs only 443 passing yards to surpass the amount that he was able to accumulate with Iowa last year.
The following stop is a home Southern Conference opener of McNamara and ETSU against Mercer (2-1, 2-0 Southern) on Saturday, Sept. 27. The game will begin at 4.30 p.m. CT and be broadcasted on ESPN+.
