The Sacramento Kings’ season continues to trend in the wrong direction. With just three wins in their last ten games, inconsistency has become the story of Doug Christie’s squad. That pattern didn’t change against a familiar rival, as the Kings were soundly beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers. The performance raised more questions than answers, but one Kings player still walked away with praise — and it had little to do with the box score.

Dennis Schroder caught the attention of fans and analysts for his edge and competitiveness, especially in his heated exchanges with Lakers star Luka Doncic. Matt George of ABC10 News and host of the Locked On Kings podcast said the moment left a lasting impression on him, even in a lopsided loss.

George explained that his appreciation for Schroder actually grew after watching the game. The reason was simple: Schroder refused to back down. He went straight at Doncic, jawing with him and even putting his shoulder into Luka’s chest during a brief altercation. Doncic was knocked back slightly and appeared to smile, but the message from Schroder was clear.

According to George, the moment didn’t change the outcome of the game, but it showed something Kings fans rarely see. Too often over the years, Sacramento has allowed opponents to talk trash or bully their players without response. Schroder, however, wasn’t interested in staying quiet.

By the second quarter, ESPN had already given the Lakers a 99% chance to win. Los Angeles led 78-55, and a Kings comeback never felt realistic. Still, Schroder’s refusal to accept disrespect stood out. During a free throw attempt by Kings guard Nique Clifford, Schroder and Doncic got tangled up while jockeying for rebounding position. After a miss, they bumped into each other, and Doncic walked away smiling.

Dennis Schroder didn’t let it go. He reportedly told Doncic, “I’m gonna beat the sh– out of you,” while Luka responded with a mocking gesture. The exchange only added fuel to an ongoing debate about Doncic’s behavior on the court.

George also criticized the star guard’s relationship with officials, saying Luka’s constant complaining and smack talk are often backed by favorable whistles. Doncic’s habit of running to referees mid-play has long frustrated fans, who frequently group him with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander when discussing players who bait officials.

That frustration isn’t limited to fans. Lakers legend Derek Fisher recently echoed similar concerns. While the Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak, Fisher pointed out that Doncic’s constant arguing with referees often hurts the team defensively. When Luka stops to complain, it creates 4-on-5 situations opponents can exploit — a major issue given that defense isn’t his strength.

Despite scoring a game-high 34 points and helping LeBron James, who added 24 points on efficient shooting, lift the Lakers, questions remain. Unless Doncic changes his focus and cuts down on the complaints, critics believe the Lakers will continue paying the price.
