Brian Daboll was always known for his fire on the sidelines, but after getting fired by the New York Giants, he has gone completely quiet. Instead of talking to the media or explaining what happened, the former Coach of the Year is spending time at home and staying away from all the noise.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Brian Daboll is focusing on family life right now. He celebrated his daughter’s birthday and has been busy driving his kids to their sports and activities. When Russini reached out for an interview about his time with the Giants, Daboll politely said no. She could even hear his family in the background during their short phone call, showing how much he has stepped back.
His silence comes after a stressful final stretch in New York. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that people inside the Giants organization felt Daboll’s emotional reactions were part of the reason he was fired. One moment that stood out was when Daboll snapped at team doctor Dr. Scott A. Rodeo while he was checking quarterback Jaxson Dart after a big hit from Eagles linebacker Patrick Johnson.
Brian Daboll finished his run with the Giants with a 20-40-1 record over almost four seasons. New York also started 2-8 for the third straight year, and the team continued to blow fourth-quarter leads, losing four games this season after being ahead late. Those late collapses became a major issue for the team.
Still, even though the Giants moved on and promoted Mike Kafka, Daboll’s coaching career is far from over. In fact, several teams already seem interested.
One surprising option is the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants’ NFC East rivals and a franchise worth $8.3 billion. Daboll already knows Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts from their time together at Alabama in 2017, when the Crimson Tide won the national championship. That same season, Brian Daboll also coached Tua Tagovailoa, who is now starting for the Miami Dolphins.
If the Eagles decide to replace their offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo—their offense is averaging only 191.7 passing yards per game with just 16 receiving touchdowns—Daboll could be a strong candidate.
He is also being connected to the Houston Texans for a possible offensive coordinator job. Even Penn State University is said to be looking at him for its head coaching position.
Now that Brian Daboll is out in New York, the big question is simple: Will his next move be in the NFL or in college football? Either way, plenty of teams are already watching closely.
