The Los Angeles Rams earned a strong 42-26 win against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but star wide receiver Davante Adams left the game late due to an oblique injury. Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed the injury after the game.
Davante Adams played well before coming out. He made six catches on eight targets for 77 yards and scored a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter. McVay said Adams likely could have kept playing if the game had been closer, but since the Rams were ahead by multiple scores, the team chose not to risk making the injury worse.
“He hurt his oblique,” McVay said. “He might have been able to come back if the game had been closer, like Puka Nacua did last week.” He played great today. You felt his impact from the start. He got another touchdown. But I don’t have any more details yet.”
The win moved the Rams to 7-2 on the season, tying them with the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West. Adams has been one of the most important players on the team in his first year in Los Angeles. Through nine games, the 32-year-old has 42 catches for 568 yards and an NFL-best nine touchdown receptions.
Sunday’s touchdown also placed Davante Adams higher in NFL history. He now has 112 career touchdown catches, moving him into eighth place all-time, passing Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez. Adams is also just one catch away from reaching 1,000 career receptions. In total, he has 12,412 receiving yards over his 12-year NFL career.
Davante Adams has played for several teams over his career. The Green Bay Packers drafted him in the second round in 2014, and he played there through 2021. After that, he spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and later the New York Jets before joining the Rams. Los Angeles signed him to a two-year contract in March worth a reported $46 million, with $26 million guaranteed.
The Rams are expected to evaluate Davante Adams again this week to see how serious the injury is. The team hopes he can return soon as they continue their push for the division title.
