The Dallas Cowboys may be on the verge of another acquisition yet again before the trade deadline and their new prospective partners may be the Cincinnati Bengals.
According to an interview by Jerry Jones who is the owner of Cowboys, the team is near to strike a deal, and speculation is that they may target Cincinnati defenders Trey Hendrickson and Logan Wilson. Both of them are good trade names and Dallas seems to be keen to tighten its defense before the playoff run.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Cowboys have conducted negotiations with the Bengals on both Hendrickson and Wilson. Another report by Schultz indicated that Dallas has been interested in Miami Dolphins pass rusher Bradley Chubb, which is an indication that the team is, nevertheless, determined to get defensive fire power.
In the meantime, defensive tackle, Mazi Smith has also emerged as a prominent figure in Cowboys trade speculation. The 23-year-old first-round pick has been inactive again before Monday Night Football, which is a sign that his stay in Dallas might be coming to an end. There are reports that Cowboys are willing to trade Smith and maybe in a package deal.
A player-to-player trade between Smith and Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson is one of the rumored situations. Smith is only 24 years old and he has been having a hard time settling down in Dallas, whereas Wilson could be having a clean sheet after 4 fruitful years at Cincinnati.
Nevertheless, when Cowboys have Trey Hendrickson as their target, the cost might be too high. Cincinnati is also allegedly demanding a first-round pick in exchange of the Pro Bowl edge rusher. That is not beyond the reach of Dallas, which has two first-round picks this year following the sale of Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers earlier in the season.
Both the teams are running out of time. It is on Tuesday, November 4, which is the NFL trade deadline of 4 p.m. ET. Should the rumors be accurate, then the Cowboys would be able to have one of the most discussed moves of the season, redefining their own defense and disturbing the playoff race in the meantime.
