Lane Kiffin’s name is back in the mix for an NFL job — this time with the New York Giants. After a rough 2-8 start and the firing of head coach Brian Daboll, the Giants are looking for a fresh start. Some believe Kiffin, the Ole Miss head coach, could be the man for the job. But if he decides to leave college football, it could cost him around $4 million to buy out his current contract.
That big price tag isn’t the only thing people are talking about. College football analyst Josh Pate made his feelings clear during his November 12 appearance on Bussin’ With The Boys. “If Lane Kiffin goes to the NFL, he’s dead to me,” Pate joked, saying he doesn’t want to see Kiffin leave Ole Miss. The rumor has fans and analysts split — would Kiffin really give up everything in Oxford for a reunion with his old quarterback, Jaxson Dart?
Lane Kiffin and Dart built one of the strongest coach-quarterback duos in college football from 2022 to 2024. Dart broke several Ole Miss records, throwing for 10,617 yards, 72 touchdowns, and completing almost 66% of his passes. Their close bond was obvious — Dart once called Kiffin his “Yoda,” and Kiffin laughed it off on social media with a funny emoji.
According to betting odds, Lane Kiffin is the early favorite for the Giants’ coaching job at +400, ahead of Kliff Kingsbury (+500) and Michigan’s Jesse Minter (+600). Even Dart’s family joined the conversation. On the Bleav in Ole Miss podcast, Dart’s father said Kiffin laughed at the Giants rumor, texting, “It’s too cold in New York for me.”
Still, leaving Ole Miss won’t be easy. Kiffin’s new contract now runs through 2031 after the Rebels’ win over Oklahoma added another year and a $9 million bonus, with $7.2 million guaranteed. That’s a big reason to stay put.
Even so, more rumors are popping up. Some believe Lane Kiffin might be eyeing Florida next. Recent betting odds list him at -300 to land the Gainesville job. Whether he stays with Ole Miss or takes a new challenge, one thing is for sure — Lane Kiffin’s next move will have everyone watching.
