The Cameron Dickey of Texas Tech has just received another significant award in his break out year. Sophomore running back was declared the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week on Tuesday following an awesome 263-yard, two-touchdown show in the Red Raiders 42-17 beat of Kansas.

Dickey had rushed for 263 yards in the season, the most by any FBS player and the most by a Big 12 back since Iowa State in November 2023 Abu Sama ran for 276 yards against Kansas State. His performance was also the fifth-highest single game total in Texas Tech history and the 28th 200-yard rushing game in the history of the program.

The sophomore had no time in establishing the tone. On the first scrimmage formation, he had broken off with a 71-yard run the longest of his career and the second-longest play by Texas Tech this season. He also ended his night with a 55-yard TD in the fourth quarter in order to claim the victory.

The two goals of Dickey were his highest in his career and the third multi-touchdown game of the season.

This was not the only award that Dickey received this week. He was also named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week on account of his performance in Week 7.

Dickey is the first Red Raider to receive the Doak Walker weekly award since 2022. He is now among the candidates in the 2025 Doak Walker Award, the award that honors the best running back in the college football.

His 263-yard performance was the highest Texas Tech game in terms of a rusher, since Byron Hanspard won the school record of 287 yards versus Baylor in 1996, the same season that Hanspard was the Doak Walker Award winner. Another former running back to have proud history in Texas tech is Bam Morris who won the award in 1993.

Dickey and the Red Raiders will then take a trip to the road to play a Big 12 battle at Arizona State this Saturday.
