Bam Knight to Start in Cardinals, Denting Fantasy Value of Michael Carter

Michael Carter Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals buzz in the early season has soon died down. Having started the season with 2-0 defeating the Saints and Panthers, they have now lost three in a row, including a disastrous defeat against the winless Tennessee Titans last weekend.

The situation is not going to be easier as we enter Week 6. Kyler Murray, who is a quarterback and was injured in his foot, will be replaced by veteran Jacoby Brissett who will center the team in the game versus the Indianapolis Colts. And, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, another shake-up is on the backfield.

According to Schefter, running back Bam Knight will have more of a role in the match on Sunday. It will be Jacoby Brissett and Bam Knight versus the Colts as the Cardinals seek to recover the loss of that painful blow.

The little action that Knight got last week resulted in 11 rushing yards and a touchdown on only four carries. In the meantime, starter Michael Carter did not get space to go as he only had 51 yards on 18 attempts -the equivalent of less than three yards a carry.

The team had a technical leader in rushing Emari Demercado who rushed 81 yards; however, 71 were on one play where he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line and was an embarrassment.

That act has compelled Arizona to provide Knight with a greater opportunity. The team is hoping that the undrafted back will be able to provide a spark to a crumbling ground game thus far too silent this season.

Kyler Murray leads the team in the number of rushing yards, in fact, with 173, through five games, which says a lot about the weaknesses of the Cardinals offense. Murray will not be involved this weekend and the running back pressure will be even higher.

The game on Sunday will also be the first significant activity that Knight does since being with the Detroit Lions in September 2023. His most productive year was in 2022 when he was a rookie with the New York Jets and ran 300 yards and a touchdown on 85 carries. Ever since, he has been swinging through a number of teams in search of a stable position.

To the fantasy football managers, this development is a blow to Michael Carter. Carter currently appears to be a risky play as Knight replaces him after scoring 13.3 points in standard leagues last week (via FantasyPros). Knight however may perhaps be a decent flex option should you be in a desperate situation, as long as the Cardinals keep utilizing their backs in the pass game.
