There was wild back and forth action Saturday, and Newberry emerged the victor in a game with Tusculum wherein Newberry defeated Tusculum by a margin of 35 to 28 at Pioneer Field.

The Wolves did not long wait to bring their impressions. The first kickoff was returned by junior running back Quez Spells who ran the ball 84 yards with a touchdown to set the pace early on. Tusculum returned with lightning speed when quarterback Lavante Adams ran 34 yards down the field and then scored on himself as a one-to-one tie was drawn at 7-7.

Since then, the game had become a fight on the heavyweight. Both South Atlantic Conference opponents exchanged momentum swings and big plays the entire afternoon. It was in his first appearance in Pioneers uniform that Adams scored four total touchdowns, and Tusculum remained in the tie till the last minutes.

However, the game was at the score draw of 28-28, but with only 1:37 remaining on the clock, Newberry quarterback Reed Charpia led the team on a critical 75-yard drive with Jonah Norris making the winning score in the form of a touchdown.

Charpia ended up with 305 pass yards and 2 TDs and Spells with 129 rushing yards to his kickoff return tally. Newberry defeated Tusculum with an overall yardage of 422-226.

Tusculum will seek payback as they go to Catawba on 25 October.
