Rafael Nadal knows what it’s like to be young and suddenly famous, so when he gives advice, people listen. The Spanish tennis legend recently shared some honest words for Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, telling the 18-year-old to stay close to people who truly care about him. Nadal warned that success can be great, but it can also “make you unhappy” if you don’t handle it the right way.

Lamine Yamal’s rise has been fast, and so has the attention around him. Since turning 18 this summer, he has dealt with more pressure on and off the field. There have been stories about big parties and rumored relationships, including one involving singer Nicki Nicole. At the same time, Barcelona and Spain are starting to depend on him more, which adds even more responsibility for someone his age.

Lamine Yamal also missed a big part of the season with a groin injury. The time away created more talk about how he is managing fame and his day-to-day life. But once he returned, he looked strong right away. In just 12 games across all competitions, he has already scored six goals and added eight assists — a reminder of how special he is.

Speaking to Movistar, Nadal said it’s important for Yamal to keep the right people around him. He said the young star should listen to people who really want the best for him, even when it’s tough. Nadal added that there are many ways to be successful, but staying balanced and happy over the years is what really matters.

Nadal’s advice hits harder because he lived a similar story. He turned pro at 14 and won the French Open right after turning 19, becoming one of the top players in the world.

Now Lamine Yamal is focused on helping Barcelona in a huge Champions League match against Chelsea on Tuesday. He missed Spain’s recent international games after undergoing a radiofrequency treatment for pain in his pubic area. Spain’s football federation said they learned about the procedure late and were surprised they weren’t told sooner.

Still, Lamine Yamal returned in La Liga and looked fully fit, playing all 90 minutes in a 4-0 win over Athletic Club and giving out two assists. Barcelona expects him to be ready for the showdown at Chelsea.

Nadal’s message comes at the perfect time: talent can take Yamal to the top, but staying grounded is just as important.
