Falcons Coach Confident Michael Penix Jr. Is Nearing Return

Michael Penix Jr. injury update

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris was optimistic on Wednesday talking about the recovery of Michael Penix Jr. and Drake London, who are the quarterback and wide receiver respectively. The two players are each recovering injuries that have led them to miss Sunday game involving a bitter 34-10 defeat to the Miami Dolphins.

Michael Penix Jr., sidelined by a bone bruise on his knee, was watching on the sidelines as the veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins had his first start of the season. Cousins, who is 37 years old, made 21 out of 31 passes covering 173 yards, the offense of the Falcons failed to get in the groove against the ferocious Miami defense.

Morris said there was Michael in the building, and feeling better. He has already been at meetings and will be involved in the walk-through today. He can do as much as he wants when he gets into practice, but I feel pretty good about the places where he is at this time.

Michael Penix Jr. was hurt in the knee when Atlanta lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Atlanta 20-10 in October 19. He also fought despite the pain and made 21 out of 38 passes, 241 yards and one touchdown. The rookie, who is 25, has demonstrated hints of potential this season, having started six games and during its completion, he made 61 percent of his throws that amounted to 1,409 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also scored a rushing TD to his record.

Morris clarified that the rate at which Michael Penix Jr. is recovering is on the positive way. It is a bruise on the bone, and all it does is get a little better every day, the coach explained. He is improving, and I hope where he is going.

At the same time, there is also wide receiver, Drake London, who is returning. The 24-year-old had been demoted to questionable last weekend due to a hip injury and then excluded Dolphins. Luckily Morris anticipates that he will be back in practice field this week.

London has been among Atlanta most reliable offensive weapons in this season as he is the top in the team with regards to receptions, 38 and in terms of receiving, 469 receiving yards with 38 receptions. He is also tied with a running back Bijan Robinson in team leader in catches of touchdowns (two).

With Michael Penix Jr. and London getting nearer to coming back, the Falcons are also hoping that their offensive engine will come back in time as well – just in time to rescue their season.
