
Tennis star Novak Djokovic made the New York news on Thursday, August 21, but not only because he made an honors first pitch at the Yankee Stadium. The 24-time Grand Slam champion came out to the mound just before the match-up between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox and team manager Austin Wells showed up to get the ball pitched, which bounced short of the plate.
Djokovic, who wore a navy T-shirt and pants, attracted attention with other reason: the white protective sleeve on his arm. The strange device raised fears among the fans on his suitability to take part in the 2025 US Open.

Some were naturally more judgmental with one stating: “MY GOAT WOULDN’T BOUNCE HIS CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH AFTER SHOWING UP IN AN ELBOW SLEEVE.”
One remarked: “The left arm is for the US Open.”
Nevertheless, Djokovic had a good experience at the baseball field. He had a light moment with Yankees superstar Aaron Judge, as the two exchanged gifts Djokovic brought out a tennis racquet and Judge brought out a baseball bat. He also sat on the photo with Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells.
Djokovic targets 25th Slam in New York
All the attentions are currently on the US Open, where Djokovic is seeking the 25th Grand Slam title. The Serbian master has already bested Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the overall record and is thirsty to appear in additional history.
Djokovic enters the 2019 Valencia Open with a seventh seed draw and he makes his opening round appearance against American youngster Learner Tien. If he advances he could be set up for a showdown with Alex Michelsen in the third round and perhaps the blockbuster match awaiting in the quarters against No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz.
A likely semifinal showdown with Carlos Alcaraz— Djokovic’s greatest nemesis, many reckon — could even lead to a mouthwatering final against Jannik Sinner, who defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinals in July.
