The Baltimore Ravens made another big move to protect their future on defense, agreeing to a three-year contract extension with nose tackle Travis Jones. The deal, announced Thursday, keeps one of their rising stars in Baltimore for years to come.
Travis Jones, 26, was expected to be one of the top names in the 2026 free-agent class. Some reports suggested he may have ended up as a restricted free agent, but the Ravens didn’t wait to find out. Instead, both sides got the deal done early, giving Baltimore long-term stability in the heart of its defense.
General Manager Eric DeCosta praised the young lineman, calling him an “ascending player” and saying the team is thrilled to have him holding down the middle of the defense.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Travis Jones’ extension is worth $40.5 million, a number that would rank him 27th among interior defensive linemen next season, per Spotrac. This agreement also comes just one week after Baltimore locked up tight end Mark Andrews on a new deal, showing the front office is focused on keeping its core together.
Travis Jones has been a major presence on the field this season. The 6-foot-4, 341-pound tackle has totaled 34 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 12 games. His six tackles for loss are already a career high with four games still left to play, and his five quarterback hits match his best season so far.
Pro Football Focus ranks him as the 13th-best interior defensive lineman among full-time starters, highlighting just how valuable he is. Over four seasons, Jones has piled up 136 tackles and five sacks, and coaches believe his best football is still ahead of him.
A big part of Jones’ impact goes beyond the stat sheet. This season, he has played 67% of Baltimore’s defensive snaps, taking on both run-stopping duties and helping in the pass rush — a rare combination for a nose tackle of his size. Teammates and coaches constantly praise his work ethic and potential. This past summer, Defensive Line Coach Dennis Johnson said he expects Jones to be “the best player on the field whenever he’s on the field.”
Travis Jones has battled ankle and knee injuries the last two years but continues to be one of the hardest workers in the building. His extension also brings security for a defensive line dealing with uncertainty around Nnamdi Madubuike, who has missed most of the season with a neck injury after signing a four-year, $98 million extension in 2023.
Head Coach John Harbaugh gave little detail about Madubuike’s situation, saying only that “there’s a lot going on” and that he can’t share more right now.
For now, the Ravens know one thing for sure — the middle of their defense will be anchored by Travis Jones for the foreseeable future.
