At the start of the season, many Seahawks fans believed Zach Charbonnet might become the team’s main running back. In Week 1, Charbonnet played most of the snaps, while Kenneth Walker III spent more time on the sideline than expected. But that idea changed quickly.

In Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kenneth Walker III showed exactly why he’s still a key part of Seattle’s offense. He ran for 105 yards on just 13 carries and looked explosive every time he touched the ball. Since then, the workload has leaned toward Walker, with him getting a little more than Charbonnet in a roughly 60-40 split. Even with that, fans still talk about why head coach Mike Macdonald continues using both backs often.

Kenneth Walker III recently spoke about it and made it clear there’s no drama between him and Charbonnet.

Both players have been productive. Walker has rushed 106 times for 472 yards and three touchdowns this season. In seven games, Charbonnet has 80 carries for 230 yards and five touchdowns. While Walker gets more big-yard plays, Charbonnet has been strong in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

There’s another reason behind the shared workload. Reporter Gregg Bell revealed that the Seahawks are still being careful with Walker’s ankle, which he injured last December. The coaching staff wants to make sure he stays healthy throughout the year, not just early in the season.

The Seahawks head into their matchup against the 3-5 Cardinals with a 6-2 record. Even with the strong start, there is room to improve. The team ranks near the top of the league in passing and scoring, but the running game has not been as consistent. Seattle is averaging 103.9 rushing yards per game, which ranks 22nd in the NFL.

Coach Macdonald said he believes the team can get better without making major changes.

Macdonald said, “We know we can do better.” “We just need to keep working, building, and going in the right direction.”

As for the backfield, Kenneth Walker III and Charbonnet seem locked in as a duo. The only question now is which one gets the ball first when the Seahawks take the field this Sunday at Lumen Field.
