The New York Giants have made a big change. After another disappointing loss on Sunday, the team decided to fire head coach Brian Daboll. The move comes after a lot of criticism from fans, especially following the defeat to the Chicago Bears. Soon after the news broke, the team confirmed that offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will now serve as the interim head coach.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Kafka is taking over right away while the Giants begin their search for a permanent head coach.

Kafka has been with the Giants since 2022. Before joining New York, he worked with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he helped develop quarterback Patrick Mahomes and was part of one of the league’s best offenses. With the Giants, Kafka has been the offensive coordinator and was promoted to assistant head coach last season. Because of that, many believed the team saw him as a possible future leader. Now he gets the chance to prove himself, at least for the rest of this season.

Brian Daboll’s firing makes him the second head coach in the league to be dismissed this season, following the Titans parting ways with Brian Callahan. Just two years ago, Daboll was celebrated for leading the Giants to the playoffs and even won Coach of the Year. But since then, the team has struggled. Injuries, quarterback changes, and a weak offense have pushed the Giants to the bottom of the NFC East.

This season was supposed to be different when the team brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. When the offense still didn’t improve, Brian Daboll decided to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. At first, the move brought energy, but Dart also made risky plays that led to turnovers. In Week 10, Dart suffered a concussion, and questions grew about whether the coaching staff handled his rookie season the right way.

Now, the spotlight is on Kafka. The Giants are 2-8 and facing a tough upcoming schedule. They play the Green Bay Packers next, followed by the Detroit Lions and the New England Patriots.

The big question is simple:
Can Mike Kafka bring some stability and help the Giants finish the season with pride?

For now, the Giants move forward with new leadership and hope for a fresh start.
