After winning the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the Arizona Cardinals might have a quarterback controversy in the wake of the win. Head coach Jonathan Ganon attempted to leave those discussions behind, informing the press that Kyler Murray will continue to be the starting quarterback of the team, but not all buy into this.

Kyler Murray missed his third consecutive game due to a foot injury that lingered and Jacoby Brissett had continued to impress underneath center. Brissett made 261 out of 31 passes with 261 yards and two scores without making a turnover and keeping the offense on the move the whole game. He even had a rushing touchdown on a quarter back sneak, which displays command and control throughout.

This was not a one-act performance. During the two previous games, Brissett had almost 600 yards with four TDs and only one interception however, both were close losses to the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers. The fact that he is increasingly becoming chemistry-wise involved with rookie wide out Marvin Harrison Jr. has come into notice of both fans and analysts. Harrison has already caught a TD against Dallas, and is rapidly becoming the target of choice of Brissett.

Since Brissett has been playing consistently, a lot of fans went to social media asking the question of whether Kyler Murray is expected to be a direct beneficiary of a one-time-only reinstatement to the QB1 position upon his recovery. The numbers Kyler Murray had previously to the injury did not augur well to his defense, a 2-3 record, 962 passing yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. In the years since being drafted in 2022 the former first round pick has had trouble revisiting the magic of his early-career days and has only a 14-22 record as a starter.

Though Brissett received the majority of the attention, Arizona defense also took one of the best performances of the year. The Cardinals restricted Dak Prescott and the high-powered Cowboys offense to only one touch-down, and it did not happen until the fourth quarter. The likes of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were maintained at a very low profile all night.

With 3-5, the Cardinals still have an uphill climb on the NFC playoff race. However, Arizona is becoming a little more competitive with Brissett running the offense efficiently and the defense fighting. It remains to be seen whether that is enough to force a change in the pecking order of the quarterbacks – but the fans certainly are posing the question.
