Wide receiver of the Cleveland Browns, David Bell has declared his retirement out of the NFL at only 24 years old, citing that he suddenly has suffered an off-field injury and he has no choice but to quit the game.

David Bell broke the news on Tuesday by posting an emotional social media post in which medical experts told him that playing would literally be life and limb.

As David Bell wrote, a few months ago, he was caught by an off-field injury, which he could do nothing about. I am ready to accept that, after discussing the issue of playing football with the doctors and praying, it would be quite literally a life and limb to remain doing so. I say good-bye to my job with a heavy heart though it is the last thing that I will ever want to do.

The former Purdue star credited his family, teammates and the Browns organization saying that playing football had taught him life time lessons of concentration, teamwork and perseverance. He said, thank God he was led to the right path all along the way and he had the strength to pursue this dream.

Cleveland picked David Bell during the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his first year as a rookie, he played 16 games with a total of 214 receiving yards. In 2023, he got his first NFL touchdown and ended the year with 167 yards and three touchdowns.

He was forced to end his season in Week 2 in 2024 with a hip injury and it turned out to be his last game. He was still on the non-football injury list of the Browns heading to 2025 when he decided to retire.

After his announcement, the Browns also left a message of support on social media: “We like you, David. We have had the honor of having you in our organization. May the best of Enlightenment in this new book.

Another lawyer, Brad Sohn, a famous injury lawyer, also helped Bell, as he stated that Johnson was ensured that nothing like that will occur to another person in the future. One thing, sure, said Sohn. This will NOT happen again. Bet.”

Although David Bell did not make it in the NFL as long as he had hoped, the league is grateful and offers hope to the fans through him: to remember that life is tough and at times one has to make difficult decisions even when he is living his dream.
