Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is once again in the news, and this time it is for a serious legal issue. Brown had been staying in Dubai, but he is now being extradited back to the United States to face an attempted murder charge linked to a shooting that took place earlier this year in Miami.
U.S. Marshals took Antonio Brown into custody in Dubai. The charge comes from an incident during a boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross in Miami. According to the victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, the two first got into a fistfight. Nantambu told investigators that Brown then pulled out a handgun and fired it. One of the bullets grazed Nantambu’s neck, which led to the attempted murder charge.
After the news of his extradition came out, Antonio Brown posted a famous movie clip from The Wolf of Wall Street on X. It appeared from the post that Brown was attempting to demonstrate that he is not going to back down.
NFL reporter Ian Rapoport shared that Brown went before Judge Barry and signed the paperwork agreeing to be extradited. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has contacted the Dade County Sheriff’s Office in Florida to arrange the next steps. Brown will first be held at the Essex County Jail before he is officially taken back to Florida.
Videos from the night of the event also spread online. They appear to show Brown fighting with several people, and moments later, gunshots can be heard in the background. The situation quickly turned chaotic.
If Antonio Brown is found guilty, the charge of second-degree attempted murder could lead to up to 15 years in prison and a fine of as much as $10,000.
Antonio Brown was once known as one of the best and most exciting wide receivers in the NFL. But over the past few years, his life has been filled with controversy and legal trouble. With this case now moving forward, his future both in and out of the spotlight is very unclear.
