Vinicius Jr in Trouble? Market Value Drops Again at Madrid

Vinicius Jr market value drop Real Madrid

The rollercoaster ride of Vinicius Jr at Real Madrid is going on. Previously heralded as the most valuable footballer in the world, the Brazilian winger has suffered another blow by having his transfer value decline as the 2025-26 season begins.

The 25-year-old started the season with high hopes of a new beginning but things have not been working as planned. Xabi Alonso is the new head coach, and his preferred approach to the attack has seen Kylian Mbappé dominating the attack at the expense of Vinicius. That change has cast doubt on his future position in the club.

Transfermarkt has Vinicius Jr at a valuation of now 150 million euros. Although still one of the most expensive players in the game, it is a significant reduction on the €200 million he was priced at only a year ago when he was at the top of world football. Already this summer, he has lost up to 20 million in value.

This decrease is a part of a larger pattern. Vinicius Junior has not been able to continue playing on the level that used to make him invincible since his failure to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or. His statistics are declining and with Madrid bringing Mbappé to the picture, he no longer appears as the invincible powerhouse the fans used to see on the left wing.

The rivalry in his vicinity is also increasing. Vinicius Jr currently lags behind Jude Bellingham ( €180 million ), Mbappé ( €180 million ), and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, the current most valuable player in world football at 200M. Vinicius is also being threatened by Pedri (€140 million), who means his place in the elite looks less certain.

In the case of Real Madrid, it is an opportunity and a cause of concern. Vinicius is contracted until 2027, although discussions of the extension have not succeeded. Spanish media have gone as far as to postulate that in case of his continued struggles, Madrid can consider a big-money sale next summer.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian has ample time to reverse the situation. He is still a favourite among fans at the Bernabue, and a good season would easily rekindle his fame and worth. But at the moment, the downfall of Vinicius Jr is among the most discussed aspects in the transfer patterns in Madrid.
