On Saturday, Sunderland ripped off a brilliant 2-1 away win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and further cemented their magnificent comeback to the Premier League. Substitute Chemsdine Talbi capped the victory in the stoppage time by finishing in a calm manner that left the home crowd silent.

Chelsea were off to a dream start with a four-minute-old Alejandro Garnacho scoring his first goal in the club after cutting in on the left, and striking through the legs of goalkeeper Robin Roefs. But the visitors were soon at the counter-stroke. The score was evened out in the 22nd minute, when Wilson Isidor scored a goal after pushing the Blues out of position with a long throw.

Chelsea did not succeed in penetrating the tight defensive structure of Sunderland, despite having most of the ball possession. The game seemed to be a draw until towards the end of the added time when a smart pass was delivered to Talbi by Brian Brobbey. His first goal in the club was a calm finish of the Moroccan winger who had joined the club in July and made sure to grab all the points.

Regis Le Bris who coaches the Sunderland team commended the tactical balance and calmness of his players following the opening loss.

This is a nice performance, having been beaten at an early stage, Le Bris said. We were very attentive, timed at the right time, and made it when the opportunity presented itself.

It was a frustrating night to Chelsea who had won two games in succession against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The side of Manager Enzo Maresca was not able to sustain their momentum and late lapses cost them a lot.

Estevao, a forward, teenage who scored the goal in at least one of the two matches against Liverpool, entered the pitch in the second half, but was suppressed by the organized defence of Sunderland.

Trevoh Chalobah of the defense acknowledged that it has been a hard lesson.

We lost concentration at the very end and we paid the price, this is what he told Sky Sports. It was not our games and we must learn out of it. So many fixtures, we can not make that an excuse.

The outcome catapults Sunderland to the second position in the Premier League chart and sends a clear signal that they are back in the top league to compete and not to survive.
