Manchester City have secured one of their best young talents, on a long-term basis. Savinho, a Brazilian winger, has just signed a new contract which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031 though he has an option to continue after that period.
The contract extension gives him an extra two years to his previous deal that was up to 2029. The 21-year-old was being watched by Tottenham Hotspur through the summer, but his choice brings an end to all speculators on his future.
This is an amazing step to sign this new contract, Savinho added. The club, and Pep Guardiola, have put so much faith in me. I understand I should learn a lot, however, I am eager to become better day by day and to make this outstanding team win more trophies.
Savinho moved to City last year after playing with Girona and has impressed in his first year in the premier leagues. Guardiola has been adamant since as early as August that he wanted the forward to remain a long time and the club did not take long to get his signature.
He becomes part of an increasing number of players in the City squad such as Erling Haaland, Rúben Dias, Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly among others who have all signed renewed contracts within the last one year.
Hugo Viana, who is also the Director of football, has already glorified the growth and the possibilities of Savinho by saying: “Savinho is just a young boy, but he has already demonstrated the traits of a star player. He has excellent qualities and his possibilities are endless.
This extension will mean that one of the future stars of City will be included in the schemes of Guardiola in the coming years.
