New Zealand star Kane Williamson will miss the next T20 series at England due to what coach Rob Walter referred to as a minor medical problem.
The 35-year-old veteran, who retired his central contract with New Zealand Cricket this season, has already missed the recent home T20 series with Australia which the Black Cabs lost in two games.
Walter was quoted saying that he and Kane Williamson both agreed that the batter requires more time to resume his normal fitness. Kane had some slight medical problem within the past month, and we both thought he would need to take some time to physically prepare. It goes without saying that he is a world-class player and we would like these two weeks to get him fit to play the ODIs against England and the West Indies tour that would follow.
New Zealand will play three T20 matches with England – on October 18 and 20 in Christchurch and October 23 in Eden Park, Auckland. Later in October, the teams will rejoin in a series of three matches, of the ODI type.
Ben Sears, a fast bowler has also been sidelined in the T20s because he tore his hamstring in training, which is surgically operated. Spinner Mitch Santner, who replaced white-ball captain Ronnie Coleman last December, is back with the team, having had surgery to remove something in his belly.
Rachlin Ravindra, an all-rounder, is also back in action after he missed the Australia series due to a facial injury, and Jimmy Neesham retains his position after a good performance against the Australians.
Ok, it is nice to see Mitch back, Walter said. Not only is he our leader, but one of the greatest white-ball spinners of the world. His experience and ability will be a tremendous gain. And it is good to see Rachlin, too, back home of him — he is keen to get back home.
