India have no plans to rest Jasprit Bumrah during the Asia Cup

Even as it prepares to play a two-Test series against the West Indies early in October, India have no plans to rest Jasprit Bumrah during the Asia Cup.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the star pacer will most likely be used in all the remaining matches of the tournament, by indicating that the matches serve as good practice before the red-ball challenge.

Prior to the Super Four match between India and Bangladesh, in Dubai, Ten Doeschate told me that he doubted he would get a rest. This is, in fact, good preparation of his work load since his Test is now scheduled to start next Thursday. When we have time to lay him to rest in future, we will see, but presently we are selecting our best team game after game, and it goes without saying that he is one of them.

Jasprit Bumrah has this year been well managed regarding his fitness after having some back problems. The 31-year-old has been in England playing only the five Tests of India in the 2-2 series. Regardless of such fears, India would like him to shoot because they are defending their Asia Cup and are gaining momentum towards the West Indies series.

The right-arm fast bowler has taken three wickets in the tournament but he did not succeed against Pakistan on Sunday, giving away 45 run without any wicket. Nevertheless, Ten Doeschate emphasized that there are off days in the game.

He will have days when he will not get wickets and go in search of the runs. However, the manner in which we have organised two seamers and spin-heavy attack, we believe that it is the most appropriate at the moment.

Jasprit Bumrah has taken on a heavy job with him usually bowling at least three overs during the powerplay. That is a lot of work in T20 cricket, Ten Doeschate confessed.
