North Carolina senior guard and team captain Seth Trimble will miss some time after breaking a bone in his left forearm during practice on Sunday. The school announced that he will have surgery this week. His exact return date will be decided after the procedure.
The injury happened shortly after Seth Trimble played a major role in UNC’s 87-74 comeback win over No. 19 Kansas on Friday. In that game, the 6-foot-3 guard scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, helping the Tar Heels move to a 2-0 start this season.
Head coach Hubert Davis shared his feelings about the situation in a statement.
“It’s really sad for Seth,” Davis said. “He’s worked extremely hard for his senior year. He’s a great teammate, and he loves being a Tar Heel. We love him too. The positive part is that he will return at some point this season. Until then, I know he will keep being a strong leader for us.”
Seth Trimble’s path at North Carolina has been one of patience and development. He played in 68 games during his first two years but only started three of them. He kept improving and earned a starting spot last season, averaging 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds while helping UNC reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Coming into this season, Seth Trimble looked ready for an even bigger role. In the first two games of the year, he averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 30 minutes per game. He also scored 19 points in a tight 92-89 loss to then-No. 1 Kansas on November 8.
North Carolina (2-0) will now have to adjust while their captain recovers. The Tar Heels continue their five-game homestand and will host Radford (2-0) on November 11.
Even with the setback, the team expects Trimble to return this season and continue being an important part of the lineup once he is healthy.
