The case of Ja Morant in Memphis continues to get more and more problematic on a daily basis. Since he came back in the league after his most recent suspension, Morant has not demonstrated the same vigor and style that previously earned him the reputation of one of the most exciting players in the league.

What was more disturbing was his sincere confession upon a recent game he told him that he does not have the same level of joy when he plays. That was a hard hit to a franchise whose structure is based on him.

This follows closely after it was reported that Ja Morant had tension with new head coach Tuomas Iisalo. There was a collision between the two and many people were left guessing where the team is going. Iisalo has clarified that he has a firm belief in accountability.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN justified the explanation that the coach does not fear making calls to those players when they are not performing. However, there was no guarantee that you would take the result, so your place is lost, said MacMahon, as he talked about the methods of Iisalo.

The situation of Ja Morant is, however, different. He is not just an ordinary player, he is the face of the franchise, signed on to a max contract, and the largest long-term investment of the organization. Cutting ties isn’t simple. However, according to some analysts, a trade could be the only thing which can lead Morant to find himself once again.

MacMahon suggested that the straight approach taken by Iisalo might have done well in Europe, but facing the star of the team in the NBA is more dangerous. Nevertheless, he feels that the coach wants to get Ja Morant to wake up more so since his level of effort and energy appeared to be off to the viewers.

During a recent match with the Detroit Pistons, Ja Morant scored 18 points with a weak performance on the field and no apparent emotion during the match. The change is apparent to a player who was a fearless driver making highlights dunks. He has been only two-time dunked in seven games this season, and his scoring statistics have steadily dropped during the last four years.

Analyst Jason Timf wrote that the Grizzlies probably have to think seriously about life without Morant in case it does not change. He feels that Morant is not holding himself responsible of his decline and that he is not as aggressive in the rim implying loss of confidence.

Nevertheless, the Grizzlies are not going to surrender. They are aware that once Morant is locked in, he can make their team a threat in the playoffs. It is hoped that he will be able to find the appetite and the passion that used to characterize him.

If that doesn’t happen? Memphis might have no option but to eventually make a painful decision, to cling on and hope or sell a star he loves to have an opportunity to restart. As of today, the clock is running out, and every one is looking at Ja Morant to determine the next way of things.
