Russell Westbrook is yet to have the right NBA offer and as reports have shown; he is yet to be willing to transfer his talents outside the country.

As the 2025-26 NBA season is only two years away, the 36-year old experienced guard is still a free agent. NBA insider Marc Stein writes though that there has been no talk whatsoever of Westbrook playing in a foreign country. They are primarily interested in getting another NBA contract – even after the first opening night.

Russell Westbrook has been with the Denver Nuggets last year where he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds when off the bench. He had a player option of returning which was to the tune of 3.5 million which he declined and was reported to have declined it after discovering that the team was not even going to include him in their rotation.

Back in the pre-season, Russell Westbrook was targeted by a number of teams in need of an experienced point guard. But now most of those places have been occupied. The Sacramento Kings remain in the fray as one of the teams and, according to ESPN Shams Charania, they are mutually interested in getting to sign the former MVP.

The Kings is reported to be considering roster adjustments to create room to take Westbrook with rookie guard Devin Carter being one of the potential trade assets. Westbrook would be an attractive addition to the team of Sacramento with respect to experience and leadership following a recent injury of forward Keegan Murray.

There were also reports that Russell Westbrook was offered a 12 million-dollar contract by a Chinese team, however, the nine-time All-Star seems determined to remain with the NBA. Stein also noted that had Westbrook been willing to play abroad, he would automatically create a flood of interest, but he is instead interested in securing an NBA home.

Now that Russell Westbrook is playing in his 18 th season in the NBA and almost his 37 th birthday in November, his patience may pay off. The injuries and lineup shifts are a normal factor when the season is already going on and this may open the doors to a team that may require a proven veteran guard.

Russell Westbrook is, at least, gambling on himself at present, and on the hope that he has another chapter ahead of him in the NBA.
