Dirk Nowitzki’s Greatness Not Understood by Younger Fans, Says Cuban

Dirk Nowitzki impact on NBA history

Dirk Nowitzki is reputedly among the greatest power forwards of all-time as well as one of the first stretch-4s of the modern era. However, as Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says, there are a great number of younger basketball fans who are unaware of the contribution he has made to the game.

In a Boardroom’s interview with Rich Kleiman, Cuban explained that at his career height, Dirk Nowitzki was being celebrated with individual accomplishments such as 20,000 and 30,000 career points, All-Star appearances, and the championship of 2011, but the younger generation does not view him that way.

He is still loved in Dallas, he has the statue before the arena, he does his job in the community, and Mavs fans will never forget him, Cuban said. However, in the rest of the world, children do not fully understand the impact of him transforming the game, as he did in Dallas. Five consecutive 50-win seasons? That’s unheard of now. However, when you are not featured in highlight reels in TikTok or YouTube, people go on.

Cuban likened the case of Dirk Nowitzki to that of other legends such as Patrick Ewing, saying that sometimes when the players influenced times, they become forgotten by younger generations.

All the facts about Nowitzki are self-explanatory: 14-time All-Star, NBA MVP, Finals MVP and the sixth in the list of all-time NBA scorers with 31,560 points. He is also in the fifth position with regard to games played (1,522).

The Hall of Famer is 47 years old, meaning that his legacy in the NBA is safe. However, the comments by Cuban put into perspective that the social media era tends to eclipse the achievements of the players who preceded it.
