The altercation appeared to begin with a bearded Cubs fan who was shouting toward a group of spectators seated several rows below him.

The argument initially remained verbal. Then things escalated when the Cubs fan appeared to kick toward a man wearing a gray shirt.

As the shouting intensified, one spectator could be heard trying to calm everyone down by saying, “It’s not that serious.”

Apparently, that message did not land.

A fan wearing a gray sleeveless shirt then threw a drink toward the Cubs supporter. Within moments, more beverages and cans were flying through the section as several fans became involved.

Security and Police Eventually Break Up the Melee

The situation quickly became difficult to control.

Video showed multiple fans exchanging punches, with some spectators stumbling or falling across several rows of seats during the confrontation. The man in the gray tank top appeared to throw several punches while the bearded Cubs fan covered his face with his arms.

At one point, fans were heard calling for security to intervene.

Bleacher personnel eventually moved in, followed by police officers who entered from the right-center-field bleachers. The groups were separated, and the man in the gray tank top was reportedly removed from the ballpark.

No arrests had been reported at the time of the original report.

Pete Crow-Armstrong was one of the biggest stars of the night, delivering a spectacular offensive performance for Chicago. He homered in the first inning and later crushed a two-run walk-off homer in the 10th inning to give the Cubs a 7-5 victory.

The win also added to his growing case for National League MVP consideration, while his performance helped him join the 30-30 club.

Crow-Armstrong was also asked about the fighting after the game.

“The fights in the stand are unfortunate and somewhat nauseating,” Crow-Armstrong said, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers. “But you got people in the stands competing too.”

The Cubs ultimately had the last word on the scoreboard, winning 7-5 in 10 innings thanks to Crow-Armstrong’s dramatic walk-off homer.

But the bigger takeaway was less enjoyable. Rivalries are supposed to create passion, noise and unforgettable moments. Punching fellow spectators and throwing drinks is not part of the package.

With both Chicago teams playing competitive baseball and emotions running high, the rest of the series should have plenty of attention.

Hopefully, Wednesday’s meeting produces more highlights from the players and fewer from the bleachers.
