The football team of the Wisconsin Badgers is still headed towards the REAL wrong direction. Four consecutive defeats by Wisconsin to Alabama, Maryland, and Michigan have made the Badgers start at the very back of Texas State and East Carolina in the new national rankings.

The new FBS rankings published by the Athletic ranked Wisconsin at No. 74 this week -one spot higher than the previous week despite the loss at Michigan last week. That leaves the Badgers lagging behind some of the mid-tier programs, such as Toledo, Old Dominion, Wake Forest, Ohio, West Virginia, East Carolina and Hawaii.

It is not only the losses that hurt but how they have occurred. Badgers offence has not fared any better as it has not made it to 14 points in all three matches in the Power Four. Both of those games were losses by two or more touchdowns.

The ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) has Wisconsin to win only 3.9 games this year and only a 6.5 percent probability of appearing in a bowl game. That is a bleak outlook considering that the team at the start of the year had expectations and with their head coach, Luke Fickell.

The only Big Ten teams that are lower in ranking include Purdue (No. 82) and Northwestern (No. 85) but each could have better reasons that they should be rated higher. Purdue has demonstrated life against the formidable teams as USC and Notre Dame, and Northwestern is not left behind as it is 3-2 after beating UCLA.

Next on the list of Wisconsin will be a must win against Iowa Hawkeyes. As the schedule only gets harder the further on, this may be the only chance that the Badgers would have to see a turnaround in the schedule before the season is completely gone.
