Dabo Swinney, Clemson head coach, is optimistic that his quarterback, Cade Klubnik, will resume playing next week, despite being forced out of the win against Boston College the previous weekend due to ankle injury.
Klubnik hurt his ankle at the end of the third quarter when the Tigers were well ahead, and left the 41-10 road win. According to Dabo Swinney, who made the statement post-game, the injury was not that serious.
“He rolled his ankle up. Attempted to rejoin the game, but we only decided to wait and see, Dabo Swinney said. “Hopefully it’s not too bad. He was shrewd the entire night, threw some great advances, and was a fine leader of the kind.
Klubnik also gave one of his best efforts of the season before leaving as he completed 22 out of 30 passes totaling 280 yards and a TD. He also contributed 48 rushing yards as well as another score to nine carries. The offense of Clemson got off to a good start as the team scored on its first six possessions and accumulated 504 total yards.
According to Dabo Swinney, Klubnik had an already sore ankle when he rolled up on it during a play. The quarter back was re-taped and would have liked to get back in but Swinney decided to give freshman backup Christopher Vizzina a few reps instead.
Swinney was not shy at all when questioned whether Klubnik will play next week against SMU. Sure, yes, said he smilingly. He was attempting to get back in this evening. I guess he would be sore, but I do not see that anything would make him stop playing.
Clemson (3-3, 2-2 ACC) is playing SMU (4-2, 2-0 ACC) on the Death Valley a day later. It will open at 3.30 pm ET on ACC Network.
