The situation of the Arizona Cardinals running back is now even more difficult. Trey Benson, who was supposed to replace James Conner after he suffered a foot injury that has ended his season, has now gone Injured Reserve due to a knee injury.

On Wednesday, Head coach Jonathan Ganon stated that Trey Benson will miss at least four games following an injury to his knee at the end of last week in a 23-20 loss to the Seahawks. The second-year back had ESPN to report later that he had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus and may miss 4-6 weeks.

Another hard strike, Gannon said. “Everyone has to do their job. I do not mind the guys getting involved.

Shuffle of Cardinals Running Back

Now that Trey Benson is sidelined, the Arizona depth chart has become a moving thing once again. Michael Carter was brought to the active roster earlier this week and he is added to Emari Demercado and Bam Knight as the main options. Gannon would not make any commitment to a new starter and said, That we will see how the week goes.

All this was supplemented by veteran D’Ernest Johnson and Jermar Jefferson to the practice squad.

Opportunity Cut Short by Benson

Trey Benson began the season as a backup, and received an expanded role in Week 4 when Conner was injured against the 49ers. His opportunity to demonstrate that he could be the lead back was not lasting long because the knee injury has only emerged after he completed the Thursday game. Gannon says that Benson managed to play despite the pain, and only reported the issue the next morning.

Other Roster Moves

The backfield was not the only ones featured in the headlines. Also the Cardinals re-signed practice squad rookie corner Jaden Davis and released corner Ekow Boye-Doe. The Carolina Panthers signed off Arizona offensive lineman Jake Curhan off the practice squad. Lineman Darius Robinson is currently dealing with a chest injury and he will not practice this week.

Cardinals RB Depth Chart (Current)

Starter: TBD (Demercado / Carter / Knight in the mix)
Reserve: Michael Carter, Emari Demercado, Bam Knight.
Practice Squad: Jermar Jefferson, D’Ernest Johnson.

Conner is already out of action and now Trey Benson is sidelined, the Cardinals will have to look fast to find someone who can jumpstart a ground game that has been an abomination all year.
