ASU Unveils $55M Indoor Football Facility Plan

After a disappointing 2025 season, ASU is responding with a major investment in its football future.

The Arizona State Sun Devils football program confirmed plans for a new $55 million indoor practice facility, a move designed to reshape ASU football under head coach Kenny Dillingham.

Dillingham described the project as a “gargantuan investment” that will strengthen ASU on and off the field.

“It will give our student-athletes a place to prepare, compete, and push themselves every single day, no matter the weather,” Dillingham said. “It’s about creating an environment where champions are built and where the future of Sun Devil Football takes shape.”

The proposed Arizona State Sun Devils football indoor facility will feature a 78,000-square-foot football practice field.

Another 6,250 square feet will be used for lobby space, restrooms, and storage.

In total, the complex will include 106,000 square feet of turf fields, giving ASU year-round training access despite Arizona’s extreme heat and unpredictable weather.

Dillingham stressed that consistent, all-weather practice time is essential if Arizona State Sun Devils football wants to build a championship-level program.

He explained that the structure is expected to rank among the biggest indoor facilities in the nation. According to him, the design will feature both a 50-yard field and a full 100-yard field housed within the same building, creating a combined space stretching close to 180 to 190 yards — something he believes will be a game-changer not only for the team’s preparation but also for the overall game-day and tailgating atmosphere.

On Thursday, Arizona State Sun Devils football shared a preview of the ambitious project on social media.

“The future of Sun Devil Athletics is now 🔱,” ASU posted.

The university also explained why the facility is critical for ASU football’s growth.

“Tempe urgently needs a football training facility to combat extreme heat and unpredictable weather that limit outdoor practice,” the statement read. “This facility will ensure year-round conditioning, reduces injury risks, and will attract top recruits. With growing demand for elite programs and community engagement, this investment is vital for player development, competitive success, and activating the valley.”

Dillingham compared the vision for the new Arizona State Sun Devils football facility to the electric 16th hole atmosphere at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale.

He believes that same energy can boost ASU recruiting and deepen fan engagement.

However, the $55 million Arizona State Sun Devils football project depends heavily on donor support.

Earlier, Dillingham publicly challenged wealthy supporters in the Valley to make a significant contribution to ASU.

After finalizing his contract, he made a direct appeal to the city’s wealthiest supporters, saying the program needs a major financial backer to step forward. He questioned whether there was truly no one capable of committing $20 million immediately, adding that he believes someone in the community has the ability to make that kind of investment.

He even promised to make that donor “the most famous person in the city.”

That bold call appears to have paid off for ASU.

Speaking on Arizona Sports’ “Bickley & Marotta,” Dillingham revealed that an eight-figure pledge from a Valley-based donor has already been secured to support the ASU indoor facility.

He shared that a donor has already pledged an amount close to that goal to support the indoor project. According to him, the contributor has strong ties to the Valley, and the early commitment suggests the fundraising effort is moving in a positive direction.

ASU athletic director Graham Rossini later confirmed the major gift, calling it “an incredible commitment from a longtime ASU partner.”

With meaningful financial backing now in place, the ASU indoor facility is moving from blueprint to reality.

For ASU football, this project is more than just steel and turf.

It’s a clear signal that ASU intends to compete — and win — in the Big 12 for years to come.
