Ruby Whitehorn Back with Lady Vols After August Suspension Arrest

Ruby Whitehorn joins the Lady Vols

Tennessee guard Ruby Whitehorn joins the Lady Vols, after being suspended due to her Aug. 8 arrest. Head coach Kim Caldwell verified on Tuesday that Whitehorn was back in practice last week, on Sept. 8, and is now full go in the team.

Ruby Whitehorn was suspended Aug. 21 after she was arrested on a domestic dispute in North Knox County. According to the Knox County Sheriff, it was a physical fight with a woman in front of a house.

Later, the police identified the aggressor as Whitehorn using video footage. The victim explained to the deputies that she heard glass being broken and saw Whitehorn outside. The two started to fight, and the victim ran into the home before the alleged Whitehorn kicked the front door with his leg, and went into the house. Then she followed the victim up the stairs, kicked open an opening to a bedroom door and smashed a mirror before taking her phone which she alleged was stolen with other belongings.

Ruby Whitehorn was charged with aggravated burglary and domestic assault, but had the charges dismissed and changed to misdemeanors, vandalism and aggravated criminal trespass. On Sept. 5, she received judicial diversion, so in a year of probation her records will be wiped out provided she takes anger management classes and does not trouble the victim again.

In her second season in charge of Tennessee, Caldwell admitted that the situation was serious.

It is not the best case scenario and it did not portray the program as we would like, Caldwell said. However, players are young men, and they are not always right. Ruby knows how bad it is that she did it and she has struggled to be able to come back.

Ruby Whitehorn is a three-year starter and started her career at Clemson, so she has transferred to Tennessee before the 202425 season. Her debut campaign in her first season in the SEC did not miss a step as she began 28 of 34 games and averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
