All concerns over the future of Nikola Jokic’s in Denver can be eliminated. The three-time NBA MVP clarified Monday that he would like to have a long-term commitment with the Nuggets.

It also sends a powerful message with the offseason contract talk as Jokić told reporters I intend to be a Nugget forever.

The star center has an opportunity to sign a three year extension of up to 200 million dollars before October 20. By waiting until next year he can earn an additional four year worth of an additional 77 million. At this point, at least he has two remaining years of his five-year, $276.1 million contract, signed in 2022, and a player option in 2027-28.

Denver has passed through a whirlwind this summer. The Nuggets acquired Cam Johnson in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. and a first-round pick in the 2032 playoffs, after a dismal Game 7 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They also created a splash by dismissing head coach Michael Malone and releasing GM Calvin Booth- shaking up the leadership of the team the first time in the career of Nikola Jokic.

Nevertheless, regardless of the changes there has been little worry that Nikola Jokic is thinking of leaving. NBA sources, such as ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon and Ramona Shelburne, have said that it is expected that he will eventually renew his deal. There are even those who imagine that he might have been secretly infuriated by the demanding coaching approach by Malone and that it would be easier to integrate.

Interim coach David Adelman performed well and led Denver over Los Angeles Clippers in a seven-game series and taking the eventual winner Oklahoma City Thunder to the edge. Adelman is now being promoted as a full-time player and has inherited a roster that has one of the most dominating players in the league and is only 30 years old.

Nikola Jokic’s 2024-25 season was historic. He was the only the third player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a complete season, with 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists in 70 games. The success of the Nuggets in the coming season can depend on whether Jamal Murray is healthy or not, as the player made more than 65 appearances in a year, the first since 2018-19.

In the meantime, Denver fans will be relieved. The Nuggets are guaranteed of a bright future as Nikola Jokic has signed a long term contract.
