The China Open ended in a bitter disappointment as Coco Gauff lost to another American Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals.

It was Anisimova who dominated the entire match as she beat Gauff 6-1, 6-2 to become the second consecutive winner of a tour final. Gauff, 21, had trouble with her serve during the match, which struck five double faults and was only winning 38 percent of her first-serve points.

Coco Gauff acknowledged that she just was unable to find her rhythm after the match.
“She played well,” Gauff said. Whatever I did, I simply could not get into the match. She is certainly among the top ones I have ever played, right next to Aryna [Sabalenka]. I will use this as a learning lesson.

After the loss, Gauff had asserted that she was having a good time in China and she will go back.
At least I will come back in case I am not injured, she said. “I’ve had great times here. This was not my day but I am looking forward to the next year.

This defeat does not eclipse a good performance by Gauff, who won four matches in Beijing – her best performance since she won the French Open trophy earlier this year. She attributed the tournament to another milestone in her development.
In general, it was a good tournament, she said. I understand what I have to do to players such as her in future. It is now time to go back and put those things into practice.

Coco Gauff is now going to Wuhan to the last WTA 1000 event of the season.
