Brazilian tennis athlete Beatriz Haddad Maia has resolved to close her 2025 season to rest and recuperate. The 29-year-old, who is No. 40 in singles and No. 33 in doubles, posted the update on Instagram on Monday to fans.
Haddad Maia wrote that she is finishing her 2025 season a little early to allow her body and mind to rest even longer. Rest assured me I would come back stronger and the best is still to come.
It is determined only a week after a terrifying incident in the WTA tournament in Seoul. Haddad Maia was having difficulties in breathing and her hands started shaking as she sat on bench during a match. Before she resumed playing a physiotherapist measured her blood pressure.
The defending champion and Brazilian, she was able to win in her first-round match but was defeated in the round 16 by Ella Seidel. She even had a match point in the third set, and led 5-2, but did not close out, and lost the last five games.
It has been a rough year to Haddad Maia, who is a former top-10 player. At the end of the season, she only had 16 victories and 26 defeats in 42 games.
